Quinn's Poem

By Sara

The following was read by a third-year Manitou Experience camper for the talent portion of the Mr. Manitou competition. His was the only act to receive a standing ovation. Thank you, Quinn, for allowing us to share this.
-——————
The soft sound of the waves
Lapping on the shore
The rustling of the leaves
In the trees at night
These are not the reason we come here.
We don’t come for the food, no matter how amazing it is.
We don’t come here for the sports.
We come here for the connections we share.
We come back, year after year, for the interactions we have.
We come back for the counselors.
We come back for our fellow campers.
And we come back for the way this place sinks into our mind.
We can’t leave it for long, even if we try.
This place is our haven, safe from judgement and harassment.
This place is our home away from home.
This place is Manitou.
